What is Emotional Intelligence?
Emotions are part of human, emotions are the glue that connects you to other people and gives meaning to life.
All emotions have a positive purpose – to keep you safe, to help you make decisions, to develop and maintain social bonds, to experience happiness and enhance creative processes.
- Knowing when to respond immediately and when to stop and think
- Knowing when to rein in your emotions, when to engage or detach from an emotion
- Knowing what is, in anyone situation, an appropriate or inappropriate expression of emotion in yourself and in other people
- Being able to manage other peoples emotions
- Knowing how to draw on emotions to develop empathy and rapport with others
Managing Emotions does not mean controlling emotions, it does not involve dominating or suppressing emotions. It involves being flexible with your thinking, behaviour and responses; being able to stay open to feelings – both good and bad.
See life as ‘filled with possibilities and solutions’ – not worries and difficulties.
Why Emotional Intelligence matters?
Understanding and managing others emotions is essential to your social well-being, your interactions and relationships with other people. The ability to pick up on and respond to others emotions in appropriate ways can help you to live and work with others more easily. Always try to act rationally and calmly in difficult situations.
Did you know emotional responses come from one area of the brain? ‘Amygdala’ – one of the first area’s to develop, it is the Limbic System. Neo-cortex is the reasoning part of your brain. It enables the most complex mental activities, such as conscious thought, language and spatial reasoning, however it is much slower than the Limbic system. So when your angry try reach out to the rational part of your brain – i will talk about that later on in anger management.
When you feel good you tend to open up and reach out:
- Positive social interactions
- More tolerant
- Open to new idea’s and experiences
- Positive about situations and other people
- Generous and open to seeing possibilities
Feeling good can motivate you to repeat an action or experience, the experience of joy, repeat the behavior that led to the emotion. If you feel good you have the confidence to broaden your experiences, to connect with others and contribute. Most people are the same and like to be treated the same way as anybody else. Everyone likes respect, kindness and contribution.

The mental benefits to relaxation massage are probably the most important. Relaxation massages can relieve anxiety by relieving tension from commonly stressful areas such as the gluteal, back, neck, and shoulders and also calf muscles. Relaxation massage releases endorphins which can help treat those suffering from depression and give you peace. “A relaxation massage reduces stress by relaxing the whole body, which encourages a healthy and calm mind.”
General physical benefits:
Promotes relaxation, which in turn, reduces muscle tension
Improved blood circulation, which delivers oxygen and nutrients to the cells
Stimulates lymphatic system, which carries away the body’s waste products
Relief from fluid retention caused by surgery, inflammation, hormonal imbalances or pregnancy.
Also pain management for several conditions such as: arthritis, soft tissue injuries, chronic pain
Within the depth of the body we have specific locations that collect energy, a feature called the chakra. These charkas are also known as “Energy Centres”. When stresses and upsets or emotional tragedy affects us and we struggle to let it go, over time it affects these energy centres. When emotional stresses take residence within our body, relaxation massage can be an exceptional form of relief. Your emotional wellbeing and optimism are so very important thus, it is essential to make ‘yourself’ a high priority. “When you feel at your best, you are in a much better condition to deal with all of life’s challenges and demands.”
