Do you have a strategy to manage the stress you are in? At Alternative Body Works we are all about finding the holistic approach to managing stress on the body. Today we would like to talk about a few of the benefits of having a good old soak in the bath.
Did you know that there is a sympathetic nervous system and a parasympathetic nervous system in your body. Briefly, the sympathetic nerve response is active when the mind is perceived to be in a stressful situation – this is related to the fight or flight response. Whereas the parasympathetic nerve response allows the body to be in a relaxed state which increases intestinal and gland activity and is usually referred to as the state of rest and digest.
One of the main benefits of having a bath that you will notice straight away is that it increases the parasympathetic nerve response. Yes, this is why you feel relaxed and rejuvenated after having a bath.
The second benefit of having a bath is that it allows the body to increase blood circulation and it helps to open up small blood vessels also known as capillaries. This helps the body to carry more blood and hence more nutrients to cells and also helps to remove metabolic waste products from its system.
The third affect a bath has on the body is that the pressure and buoyant force creates a difference in gravity force in our body which reduces the pressure to the skeletal and muscular systems such as joints and tendons – which affects the whole body.
Basically without all the technical jargon a soak in your bath is not only good for the soul but also has some amazing effects on the body.
